The Mido Ocean Star GMT is a watch made for those seeking adventures abroad, as it is equipped with the highly practical GMT function, the 44mm beauty clearly displays the time in two different time zones: home time and local time.
The Ocean Star GMT proves both effective and practical thanks to its perfect legibility. To make it easier to read, Mido has differentiated the hands according to their function. In addition to the hour, minute and seconds hands, an additional blue varnished 24-hour hand indicates the time in a second time zone by pointing to the hour-circle (24-hour format) on the flange of the dial.
Plus the watch is kept legible and pure in design with the addition of the timezone indictions being engraved on the case back.
Let’s take a closer look at the inner workings of this masterpiece. It is running on the automatic Mido Caliber 80 (ETA C07.661 base), measuring 11 inches, 25.60 mm, and a height of 5.77 mm. The making also incorporates 25 jewels, intricately put together in its finely decorated Elaboré-grade movement. Then its oscillating weight is decorated with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo. Built to include the HMSD + GMT 24H functions. The Ocean Star GMT is also adjusted on three different positions for high accuracy. And you won’t have to worry during your travels as the watch has up to 80 hours of power reserve.
The case then is crafted using satin-finished and polished stainless steel, with a thickness of 44 mm. It features a unidirectional rotating bezel in blue-coloured ceramic, as well as a sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides, and finely decorated Elaboré-grade movement. Then as mentioned, case back is intricately engraved with the time zones, as well as the watch’s serial number. The screwed case back and crown is also water-resistant up to a pressure of 20 bar, which translates to it able to withstand 200 m / 660 ft of depth.
The dial is velvety black, with individually applied indexes with white Super-LumiNova. There is a date window at 3 o’clock, plus a second time zone indicated on the black and blue flange. While the hands are diamond-cut with the hour and minute hands central groove marked with white Super-LumiNova, and the diamond-cut sweep-seconds hand with blue varnished tip and white Super-LumiNova too. Then there’s the additional blue varnished second-time-zone hand also with white Super-LumiNova.
Meanwhile, as for the straps there are three options. A choice between the blue fabric with rolled edges and white stitching at the lugs, or the pin buckle in satin-finished or polished stainless steel. All of which are equally alluring, but it’s just a matter of your preference. The Ocean Star GMT by Mido retails for RM 4670.00.
