Longines watches, the brand synonymous with elegance and heritage in the watchmaking world has launched a new iteration of its famous Legend Diver watch. This is a watch model that has been extremely popular amongst fans of Longines as well as watch enthusiast with a panache for heritage sports watches. It’s a reference that takes cues from Longines’ first ever “super compressor” dive watch, and almost 62 years later they’re once again looking back into their archives to create re-iterations of this classic model.
In February 2021 it was announced that Longines would be introducing a new coloured dial for the Legend Diver, this time it’s a gorgeous fumé brown ref. L3.774.4.60.2. It has a light brown centre with a gradient towards a darker brown on the outer edge of the dial, best described as a cigar tobacco colour. This is of course perfectly inline with this years colour trends of earthy elegant tones, emitting a sense of relaxed luxury and a touch of vintage vibe. Another popular watch capitalizing on this shade of brown is the Rolex GMT Master II Everose Rolesor, also known as the “Root Beer”.
It may have the appearance of a vintage watch on the outside, but the new Legend Diver is far from vintage, with an increase in quality of materials used in construction and futuristic technicalities such as the raised sapphire glass crystal with anti-reflective coating, and dual screw down crowns. It also incorporates a screw down caseback, which helps it attain its impressive 300 meter water resistance rating just incase you’d like to test the depths of the sea.MORE FOR YOUPower Shift In The Watch Journalism IndustryHoliday Gift Guide 2020: The Best Microbrand Watches To Look Out ForThe Great Debate: Rolex Daytona Vs Zenith El Primero
Announced in late 2020 but new for this year is also Longines’ extended warranty of 5 years for all watches that include a silicon balance spring within the movement, which the new release Legend Diver does have since it uses the Calibre L888.5. This is a modifed ETA movement with 21 jewels and it runs at 25,000 vibrations per hour, producing a generous 64 hour power reserve.
The new Legend Diver is also available in a deep ocean blue dial variant ref. L3.774.4.90.2, perhaps more suited towards summer attire.
The Legend Diver re-issue model was first released back in 2007, but has yet to be seen in this new brown dial offering with a matching brown leather strap. This is perhaps one of this years most beautiful brown dial offerings so far, and one that connoisseurs should take a look at in person.
