The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” is the first IWC watch featuring a case in a newly engineered, dark green ceramic. Highlighting the tool-watch aura of the debutante, this special hue is inspired by the flight suits and uniforms of TOP GUN pilots.
IWC takes pride in this development because colored ceramics result from a sophisticated manufacturing process in which zirconium oxide is mixed with other metallic oxides. Because the color changes during the sintering process, it takes many trials even for experts as the Schaffhausen-based company to determine the right blend of the raw materials.
The monochromatic design is completed by a dark green dial with black hands and printing. The watch face emits a subdued green luminescence in the dark. The pushers, crown, and case back are made of Ceratanium. This matte black material developed by the Swiss brand brings together the properties of titanium and ceramic. It is as light and unbreakable as titanium and as hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic.
Inside the 44-mm case, IWC’s self-winding 69380 caliber which amasses a power reserve of 46 hours is at work. This chronograph movement features a classic column-wheel design and offers a day and date display at 3 o’clock. A soft-iron inner case provides protection against magnetic fields. This TOP GUN chronograph is fitted on a green rubber strap with textile inlay, whose “Woodland” color matches the case.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” retails for $10,700
