Casio, via its official G-Shock Twitter account, has released a short teaser video showcasing a collaboration with Bandai Namco’s popular Pac-Man franchise. Towards the end of the video, it is revealed that this new product will be a new timepiece under the renowned watch brand’s Casio Vintage series.
For the uninitiated, the series are “remastered” releases of the Japanese brand‘s classic watches from its early beginnings onwards. These also often feature new colour options not offered in the original versions, as well as the branding and design elements from collaborations with other intellectual properties. The latter are often released as limited editions, of course.
According to the video, the upcoming collaborative watch will be known officially as the Casio Vintage x Pac-Man. Only the rear stainless steel backplate of the timepiece was revealed, where it is shown to feature the etchings of the game’s branding, level design and character sprites. Unfortunately, the exact Vintage model used for this collaboration was not disclosed. If we are to speculate, there’s a chance that it may be the Casio LA680WA series (shown below) or it could be something different altogether. Other than that, the brief glimpse also revealed that the watch might feature a yellow or gold overall colour scheme.
This isn’t the first time that Bandai Namco featured its popular ghost-dodging pellet muncher on a vintage-styled watch, by the way. The most recent instance of this was back in 2019, where the company collaborated with US watchmaker Timex and released the Timex T80 x PAC-MAN. Found on the watch’s surrounding bezel in front and its rear backplate are the game’s character sprites and branding. It is possible that Casio might also go with something similar for the front of its own timepiece, but featuring a different design.
It is not revealed when the company is planning to launch the Casio Vintage x Pac-Man watch. But given that the teaser video was released quite recently, a full unveiling is expected to follow up in another couple of weeks or so.
